The River is Dying. The Adventure is Just Beginning.

Introduction: The Notawallop River is the lifeblood of the station. It’s a place for swimming, a home for yabbies, and the water that keeps the farm alive. But one day, the river’s song begins to fade. The water level drops, the banks turn to mud, and a strange silence falls over the land.

An Ancient Mystery. An Impossible Task.

The adults are stumped. They search the river for miles but can find no reason for the creeping drought. But Dozy, Mack’s wise emu, knows the secret is hidden somewhere they are forbidden to go: the dangerous Razorback Hills.

Armed with a mysterious carved piece of wood and a clue from Dozy, Mack and Chrissy must defy the rules and venture into the treacherous hills. There, they discover a disaster far bigger than they ever imagined—and realize that the only way to save their home is to achieve an impossible feat of strength, courage, and teamwork.

Did You Know?

  • Many Australian rivers are "ephemeral," meaning they can naturally dry up and then flow again after heavy rains. The Notawallop River's problem, however, is much bigger!
  • Landslips can happen when heavy rain makes soil and rock on a steep hill unstable. A big one can move thousands of tonnes of earth in just a few moments.
  • The diamond pattern the children find is a powerful symbol in many Aboriginal cultures, often representing stories, people, and the landscape itself.
